ZOOPLANKTON OF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS
SAERI (South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute)
Zooplankton play an important role in energy transfer in the Falkland Islands. This project aims to collect data from the northwest Falkland Islands to understand how zooplankton distribution and effect of local oceanography affect zooplankton communities around the Falkland Islands and their role in the food web.

Understanding where zooplankton occurs, why it appears in certain areas, and how warming oceans impact its distribution is crucial for sustainable fisheries management. The project will conduct the first-ever zooplankton surveys in the West Falkland coastal area using taxonomy, genetics, and isotope analyses to study energy flow. Fieldwork activities include deploying zooplankton collection nets across three locations, aiming for nine surveys.
