How It Works for Scientists
1. Submit Your Research Proposal: Register your project with Yachts for Science by submitting a short proposal outlining your research goals, location, and any vessel requirements.
2. Matching You with a Yacht: We review applications throughout the year and match eligible projects with available vessels. If no immediate match is found, we keep your project on record for future opportunities.
3. Coordination & Planning: Once a match is made, we connect you with the yacht’s team to coordinate logistics, research needs, and vessel capabilities.
4. Set Sail: After finalising details and signing a participation agreement, your research mission is ready to launch.
5. Share Your Findings: We encourage open-access data sharing, ensuring your research contributes to global marine conservation efforts. Participating yachts are credited in scientific outputs and publications.
What to Consider Before Applying
World wide projects considered
Projects should ideally last 1–2 weeks. Shorter missions are easier to match.
Vessels can typically support SCUBA diving, small boats, and limited research equipment but may not be suited for highly complex operations.
Scientists must be at least PhD candidates or have prior expedition experience.
Projects must be self-funded—vessels provide accommodation and onboard facilities, but travel and research costs must be covered by your funding.
Researchers are responsible for securing permits for their work.
